Battle's Over - A Nation's Tribute

National Programme

11th November 2018 marked the Centenary of the Armistice which brought an end to World War 1.

A unique series of events in the morning and evening took place, involving organisations and communities the length and breadth of our nation and in many countries abroad.

Battle's Over - Sleep in peace, now the battle's over: a thousand bagpipes at dawn.

• Battle's Over - The Last Post: a thousand bugles sound out at 6.55pm.

• Battle's Over - WWI Beacons of Light: a thousand beacons are lit at 7.00pm.

• Battle's Over - Let the Bells Ring Out: a thousand church bells ring out for peace at 7.05pm.

Parish Programme

The Parish joined in the commemoration.

  • From 6pm - Parish Hall opened for guests.
  • 6.55pm - The Last Post was played by local trumpeters at the War Memorial in St Luke's churchyard.
  • 7.00pm - Beacon was lit in a field near the Parish Hall.
  • 7.05pm - Bells of St Luke's Church 'rang out for peace'.
